Asuncion, IP Agency.- With the official inauguration of the Olympic Games, individual competitions began, with Team Paraguay represented in rowing, swimming and judo.
The first events were rowing, where Alejandra Alonso and Javier Insfrán went on to the repechage in the men’s and women’s single sculls. The next events will be this Sunday 28th starting at 03:00 (Paraguayan time). The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, participated as a spectator in the competitions of our rowers.
In swimming, Luana Alonso competed in the 100-meter butterfly, finishing 29th in the overall classification and without the possibility of advancing to the next round. After the competition, the 20-year-old swimmer made it official that it will be her last competition at the Olympic Games.
In judo, Gabriela Narváez reached the quarterfinals after two consecutive victories, where she fell to Baasankhuu Bavuudorj, from Mongolia. Narváez continues competing this Saturday in the repechage against Abiba Abuzhakynova from Kazakhstan.
As for the other individual sports, Matheo Mateos will compete in the 200-metre medley on 1 August, the same date on which he starts the golf competition with Fabrizio Zanotti. On 2 August it will be Xenia Herbert’s turn in athletics.
In team sports, the girls’ beach volleyball team will begin competition on Monday, July 29, while the U23 team will play against Israel this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for the second date of Group D.
