First human has received Neuralink implant according to Musk

It was on Sunday that the first person received an implant from Neuralink yesterday and is currently recovering well. Multi-billionaire and Neuralink founder Elon Musk claims that on the platform X on the Monday. The announcement from Musk comes only five months following the company received approval from the US FDA to test the technology on humans. A full six years following the company was founded.

The intended goal of the Neuralink technology is to “create a symbiosis between human and AI”, but this particular first round of trials was a bit different. The technology that Neuralink is now trying is meant to help people who are paralyzed or have other types of neurological diseases.

The implants, called N1, are placed in the brain and can decode its signals, which are then transmitted to an app. According to the company, people with impaired mobility should be able to control external devices, such as computers and keyboards, with the power of thought.

A basic requirement for the subjects is difficulty in using the four limbs. However, the company has not been able to include people with other implants, such as pacemakers. Neuralink’s trials will also be included in one study which the company carries out over six years to observe the technology’s results and effects on the body.
