First confirmed case of monkeypox in Iran 30’s woman

The first case of monkeypox infection was confirmed in Iran.

Iran’s Ministry of Health issued a statement on Monday (local time) saying that a 34-year-old woman in the southern city of Ahvaz had been infected with monkeypox.

Padram Parkain, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health, said: “The woman developed spots and rashes on her skin and was taken to the hospital for examination.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) last month.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been over 38,000 confirmed cases of infection in 93 countries worldwide.

In the Middle East, infections were confirmed in Israel (189 cases), the United Arab Emirates (16 cases), Lebanon (6 cases), Saudi Arabia (5 cases) and Qatar (3 cases).
