First comment and warning from Egypt of escalation between Israel and Lebanese factions

During his reception of Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Brown and his accompanying delegation, Sisi stressed that the current regional situation requires a decisive stance from the international community and all active parties, to exert all efforts and intensify pressures to defuse tension and stop the escalation that threatens the security and stability of the entire region, warning in this regard of the dangers of opening a new front in Lebanon, and stressing the necessity of preserving Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty.

On the other hand, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that it is following with great concern the ongoing escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli front, calling for the necessity of concerted international and regional efforts to reduce tension and instability in the region, and to work to establish calm and contain the escalation.

Egypt warned against the dangers of opening a new war front in Lebanon, and stressed the importance of preserving Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty and sparing it the dangers of the region slipping into a state of comprehensive instability, considering that the dangerous and rapid developments witnessed in the southern Lebanon region are a clear indication of what Egypt had previously warned against regarding the dangers of irresponsible escalation in the region against the backdrop of developments in the Gaza Strip crisis and the Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people in the Strip.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry reiterated the inevitability of a comprehensive ceasefire and ending the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, to spare the region further factors of instability, conflicts and threats to international peace and security.

It is worth noting that the Egyptian capital, Cairo, is hosting today a new round of ceasefire talks in Gaza, at the invitation and with the participation of American, Qatari and Egyptian mediators.

Israel announced today, following the attack it launched on Lebanon, that its negotiating delegation regarding Gaza had headed to Cairo, while the Palestinian factions movement announced yesterday that its delegation, headed by Khalil Al-Hayya, had indeed arrived in Egypt yesterday, confirming its adherence to what it had agreed to on July 2.
