First body rescued in Pasta de Conchos identified

Almost two decades after the collapse of the Pasta de Conchos minewhich in 2006 left 65 dead in Coahuila, the federal government reported this Friday the Identification of the first body rescued.

In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) stated that the remains correspond to Jose Alfredo Ordonez Martinez.

“(Es) one of the 13 workers who, according to the logs provided by the company, were working at one of the points in the mine where search work is currently being carried out.”

He pointed out that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) already officially informed the immediate family members of the miners regarding the identification, after they recovered the biological remains inside the mine in early June.

How did they identify the remains of a miner?

The above was achieved once the expert actions corresponding legal, in collaboration with the National Institute of Genomic Medicine (Inmegen)explained the Segob.

He indicated that Inmegen processed the genetic material of the recovered remains and carried out the confrontation with the DNA samples that relatives of all the victims provided to the Institute.

“With this identification, the FGR will give Formal start of the delivery process of the remains to the family of the identified miner. For its part, the Government of Mexico will provide full support to the family,” he said.

They hope for more discoveries at the Pasta de Conchos mine

The Ministry of the Interior stated that rescue efforts, led by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), continue in the damaged tunnel to which access is possible.

“Likewise, the following are maintained approximation works in two more gallerieswhere there is the expectation of making new discoveries,” he added in the bulletin.

On June 12, the government reported the First discovery of human remains and tools working in one of the galleries where, according to the logs, 13 of the trapped workers were.

The discovery occurred at a depth of 146 meters and, according to the authorities, there is no evidence that an explosion occurred at that site, as the authorities had previously said.

Likewise, the Ministry of the Interior reiterated the commitment of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to continue with the rescue efforts of the missing workers and “not to stop until they are found.”
