First AEK, then Hapoel Holon, then… Prometheus’ potential opponents in the BCL – 2024-03-09 08:23:44

For Prometheus, the match against Hapoel Holon next Wednesday (19:00) at “Tofalos” is the game of the year! And that’s because if the home group prevails over the Israelis, it will automatically seal the ticket for qualification to the 8th round of the BCL.
Difficult; There is certainly a high degree of difficulty in this particular game, as do not forget that it will be the last card of the visitors to pass to the next phase, but the truth is that on the one hand with the psychology that the “Prometheus” now have and on the other with the support of Patras basketball (the stands in yesterday’s match against Murtia were fantastic), the quarter-finals seem to be closer than ever.
What will Prometheus find there? Everything is a matter of the draw (the relevant procedure will take place on 22/3), but the bottom line is that the opponent will depend on the position that Prometheus will occupy in the 12th Group of the Top-16. If we assume e.g. that Ilias Papatheodorou’s team takes 2nd place (if -9 was covered in the match against Murcia we would even be talking about first place), then the possible opponents in the “8” are the Spanish Malaga (9th Group), the German Bonn who won the trophy last year (10th Group) and one from Hapoel Jerusalem and Tenerife (11th Group). Let’s also mention that the event has a final-4, which will be held at a neutral venue (it has not been announced yet).
Did we take it too far? Maybe, but the way Prometheus plays and – above all – with the winning spirit of its players, anything is possible. And when we say everything, we mean… everything! Even if against the home team there are referees like the one yesterday that took players, coaches, management and fans out of their clothes justifiably. For the time being, however, Saturday’s (20:15) league game with AEK in Ano Liosia takes precedence. The “Two-Headed” is picking up its pieces after this year’s disappointing run in Europe (the day before yesterday it lost 112-108 to Hapoel Holon in Athens in the 3rd overtime). Be careful, be very careful! The win is essential in the battle for a place in the top 4 of the Basket League.
