FIRN: Exploring Noir Literature & Literary Events in Frontignan la Peyrade

2024-01-15 13:36:10

Literary walks, workshops, dark evenings, etc., the International Festival of Black Novels / FIRN is all year round in Frontignan la Peyrade and its territory. While waiting for the 27th edition of the festival which will take place from May 24 to 26 at the Maurice-Clavel professional high school, go and meet the authors who are leading this new season. Rare and human moments to share without moderation. For the first 2024 meetings open to the public, organized as part of the Nuits de la lecture, Hervé Le Corre and Jérôme Leroy are offering a Black Evening with cross-readings accompanied by food and wine pairings, on January 19*, then, on Saturday January 20, meet around a musical reading with Michèle Pedinielli accompanied by Marcel Bataillard**.

The FIRN participates in Reading Nights

The FIRN continues to formulate original ideas in order to make the noir novel more accessible. And since 2020, he has made reading aloud a priority. By training readers who join the Book Action and Engaged Reading Brigade (BALLE) and then lead electric river rides during the festival, or interventions in schools, throughout the year. By also training 2nd year students from the Maurice-Clavel Professional High School so that they can work with schoolchildren, young children or isolated people. And by offering highlights which reiterate the importance of the author’s words and put it back at the center of the City.

* Dark evening – Friday January 19

The year 2024 therefore opens with a unique moment: a food and wine pairing tasting. Your 6th sense will be awakened since in complete darkness, the tasting will be accompanied by cross-readings aloud by two masters of the dark novel, Hervé Le Corre (Who will live following usShores 2024) and Jerome Leroy (Story of the girl who didn’t want to kill anyoneSyros 2023) …

After the success experienced in 2023, to the sound of the voices of Claire Favan and Céline Denjean, just illuminated by a soft light, reading passages from their book in turn, more than fifty people will once once more be able to participate this year to this experience and taste, in the darkness of a mystery place, the food and wine pairings, resulting from the collaboration of the restaurant In-Fine and the wine merchant Flaconneur.

  • FIRN is not just thrillers and detective novels! It’s also imagination!

Hervé Le Corre (Grand prize for detective literature 2009) and Jérôme Leroy (Grand prize for imagination 2022), two big names in French literature, will share with you, in a unique atmosphere, passages from their latest novels, three dystopias ” Who following us will live” (Rivages Noir), “Vivonne” (La Table Ronde/Folio SF) and “Story of the girl who didn’t want to kill anyone” (Syros Jeunesse).

His verses diverted from François-Villon will be taken up the day following the Soirée noire, during the musical reading performed by Michèle Pedinielli.

And always to promote the FIRN and allow as many people as possible across the entire territory to benefit from it, Jérôme Leroy will immediately host, on Saturday January 20, a writing workshop at the La Fabrique media library at 10 a.m. and a meeting/ signing at the La Grande Sauterelle bookstore in Marseillan at 4 p.m.

Hervé Le Corre, for his part, will be in Lunel on Saturday January 20, for a meeting/signing at the AB bookstore at 7 p.m.

** Musical reading – Saturday January 20

Among the new notable voices of crime fiction in France, Michele Pedinielli marks its return to muscatiere land, for a creative residency in Frontignan la Peyrade, in collaboration with Sète Agglopôle Méditerranée, the Montaigne media library and the Manitas de Plata intercommunal Conservatory. Meeting in partnership with the La Plume Bleue bookstore.

Musical reading by Michèle Pedinielli (The patience of the immortal, L’Aube 2021) and Marcel Bataillard (I Burtuoni). Do you think you know Corsica? The author reveals the darkest aspects to you while the musician sings them, revisiting the polyphonies. A journey of great beauty.

Saturday January 20 – 8:15 p.m. Free entry upon registration. Auditorium, Montaigne Media Library
