FIREWORKS IN ITALIAN – State Philharmonic of Kostroma Region

December 6 (Friday) at 18.30 the Great Hall of the Philharmonic will be transformed by the magic of the enchanting and magnificent cello. A vibrant program “Fireworks in Italian» will give a meeting with the winner of the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition Denis Shapovalov (cello).

Denis Shapovalov is a cellist, conductor and composer. His creative path began at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky, where he studied with Professor Natalia Shakhovskaya. In 1998, Denis Shapovalov won the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition.

He performs on the world’s largest stages and takes part in prestigious international festivals in foreign countries. He regularly performed with orchestras conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich, as well as with leading ensembles conducted by V. Spivakov, V. Fedoseyev, A. Vedernikov, L. Maazelch, Yu. Bashmet, D. Noseda, Yu.-P. Saraste, E. Litton. He played in an ensemble with R. Shchedrin, V. Repin, N. Znaider, A. Lyubimov, A. Gindin, D. Nakamatsu, A. Mustonen.

After completing his postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory, Denis Shapovalov was invited to teach at his native university, where he worked until 2012. He regularly holds master classes and serves on the jury of international competitions, sharing his experience and knowledge with young musicians. In 2014, Denis Shapovalov initiated his own educational project – the International Traveling Cello Academy. In 2016, the musician turned his talent to the art of composition, creating a number of original works worthy of the attention of the musical community. Denis Shapovalov became famous as the first academic musician in the world to perform a concert at the North Pole, demonstrating his bold and innovative approach to the art of music.

“Fireworks in Italian” — a bright program by Denis Shapovalov, who celebrates his 50th birthday in December. In this program, Denis will appear in all three of his roles, performing works by outstanding Italian composers — Vivaldi, Boccherini and Rossini. Also that evening, the Kostroma premiere of Shapovalov’s concerto for cello and chamber orchestra will take place «Bravura Concert»created for the anniversary of the Moscow Conservatory in 2016.
