Fireworks boat bursts into flames in Sarnen OW
In Sarnen, the 1 August fireworks get out of control. A fire breaks out on a boat where the firecrackers are stationed. A skipper was slightly injured.
The national holiday fireworks in Sarnen in the canton of Obwalden ended in a boat fire. Two fireworks ships burst into flames.
The fireworks mounted on the ship then explode uncontrollably. Videos from reader reporters show that the fireworks continue to explode on the burning ship for a few minutes. The reason for the fire breaking out was a disruption in the fireworks, writes the Obwalden cantonal police in a statement.

“People didn’t even notice what was going on at first,” says a reader reporter. However, there was no panic. The police and fire brigade were quickly on site. The affected Naue was finally in full fire. The second boat, which was tied to the other, also caught fire. The two skippers might have been saved. However, one of them was slightly injured.
According to reports, the fire on both boats was extinguished shortly following midnight. The Zurich Forensic Institute was called in to defuse the remaining fireworks. (euc/SDA)
