The Copernicus/Emergency Management Service was activated for the immediate mapping of areas of the Attica Region, for the fires that occurred on June 29 and 30, 2024.
The purpose of activating the Copernicus Service is the production of cartographic products and data for areas of the Attica Region, which were affected by the fires of Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June, to assist the work of the agencies involved in dealing with emergencies and in the management of consequences of the phenomenon.
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, following the order of the general secretary of Civil Protection, the Emergency Planning department of the general secretariat of Civil Protection, as the National Contact Point, activated the Copernicus/Emergency Management Service (activation code (EMSR733) of the European Union.
The request was accepted by the European Union and the availability of a series of cartographic data and products resulting from the analysis of satellite images is expected immediately.
