Firefighters of Côte-d’Or Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Accustomed to mobilizing for major causes, the firefighters will once once more distinguish themselves in the coming weeks. And more particularly those of Côte-d’Or with what might be a first in France. Indeed, on the occasion of Pink October, the month dedicated to breast cancer screening awareness, the firefighters of this department announced that they would wear pink polo shirts.

Professional or volunteer firefighters, men or women, all the department’s first responders will wear this new very visible polo shirt during their service throughout the month of October, report our colleagues from local radio France Blue.

But it does not stop there. The Côte-d’Or Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis 21) also plans to display pink ribbons on each Victim Rescue and Assistance Vehicle (VSAV), better known under the name of ambulance. A small ribbon on the front windshield and a larger one on the rear window.

A cancer that affects 60,000 women per year

New badges will also be offered for sale to all firefighters in the department. The amount collected, resulting from the participation of firefighters, will be entirely donated to an association at the end of the month. But before that, a launch evening will be organized on September 28 at the Dijon-est Rescue Center.

VIDEO. Was Shiloh, who died of cancer at 13, exposed to metals?

Breast cancer affects 60,000 women per year and kills 12,000. Ten years following the first diagnosis, 15 to 20% of patients see the disease return in a boomerang, either in the chest itself (local recurrence), or further, in other organs (the famous metastases). One in five women who will once once more be caught in the spiral of treatments and a disrupted existence.
