“We were called to the scene at 7:40 a.m. explains Lieutenant Gill Melchior, from the Beaumont firefighters. When we arrived on scene, the right half of the building was engulfed in flames.”
Firefighters battled the flames for more than two hours. Wooden building built by Stabilame, the clubhouse is destroyed, in its left part: “We managed to save the brewery, on the left. It is just damaged by the fumes. The right part is completely charred.”
According to the first hypotheses put forward on site, it seems that the fire started at an electric golf cart. “The clubhouse was unoccupied, there was no activity”says Gill Melchior.
Several barracks were called in to help fight the flames: Beaumont and Chimay, but also Philippeville. Three cisterns had to ensure the water supply, which was faulty on site.
