Rocket sirens wailed in northern Israel on Thursday followingnoon. A single missile launched from Lebanese territory was successfully shot down by the Iron Dome air defense system.
► Shortly therefollowing, sirens rang out in dozens of towns and villages in northern Israel amidst – more rocket fire! The Israeli army confirmed the shelling from Lebanon.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a security meeting following the attack. It is the largest attack on the north of the country since 2006.
“Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has been briefed on the details of the recent security incidents on Israel’s northern border and has issued initial instructions to the IDF chief of staff and the entire defense apparatus,” an official statement on the attack from Lebanon said.
Several injured in northern Israel
According to the Israeli rescue service Magen David Adom, there are three injured in northern Israel. Images also showed impacts on a house and a street – it was initially unclear whether these came directly from the shelling from Lebanon or from the Iron Dome’s anti-missile missiles.
Local residents reported hearing loud explosions across northern Israel while in towns near the Lebanese border including Matsuva, Shlomi, Hanita, Admit, Eylon, Hila, Rosh HaNikra and Arab el Aramasha. The sirens continued to wail.
