Fire in the Tyrolean railway tunnel: Nightjet evacuated

According to previous information, a Nightjet with 200 passengers was in the tunnel at the time the fire broke out, and the evacuation of people was underway, a police spokesman said late Wednesday evening. There was no information about injuries for the time being, it said.

According to media reports, one or more cars that were transported on the train caught fire due to damage to the overhead line. The fire has not yet been extinguished, but is under control, the “Tiroler Tageszeitung” reported in its online edition, citing the Tyrol control center.

The passengers were taken outside, where tents have already been set up. The ÖBB also organized buses for the onward transport of the passengers.

A major alarm was triggered, around 20 fire brigades from the area were in action.
