In the Terfener Tunnel, a tunnel of the new Unterinntalbahn, a fire broke out Wednesday evening near Fritzens (Innsbruck-Land district) for a previously unknown cause. A Nightjet with, according to previous information, 200 passengers was in the tunnel at the time the fire broke out, and the evacuation of people was underway, a police spokesman told APA. There was no information regarding injuries for the time being, it said.
According to media reports, one or more cars that were transported on the train caught fire due to damage to the overhead line. The fire has not yet been extinguished, but is under control, the “Tiroler Tageszeitung” reported in its online edition, citing the Tyrol control center.
