One person died in a full fire in a farmhouse in Mittelhäusen near Bern on Saturday morning. A man was able to leave the building on his own and was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Several ewes with young died.
The fire was reported shortly before 5:20 a.m., according to the cantonal police in Bern. By 7 a.m., around 70 members of the Köniz fire brigade and Bern protection and rescue brought the fire under control, but were unable to prevent the farmhouse from burning out completely. Several hundred meters of water hoses were laid for the extinguishing work.
Difficult identification
The identification of the fatality is difficult, as a police spokesman told the Keystone-SDA news agency. Whether it is a woman or a man cannot be said with certainty.
Investigations into the cause of the fire, the extent of the damage and the cause of death were initiated under the direction of the regional public prosecutor’s office in Bern-Mittelland. (SDA)
