HERRING:An industrial building on Rømøvej on the outskirts of Hjørring was hit by a heavy fire on Thursday followingnoon.
Flames had gone through the roof and smoke billowed from the building.
Police: Close windows and doors
The smoke was so strong that North Jutland Police urged residents nearby to stay away, go inside and close doors and windows. The warning concerned citizens within the area of Frederikshavnsvej, Ringvejen and Frilandsvej.
However, that warning was lifted at 17.38.
– The smoke has gotten so much under control that we are canceling the warning, says chief of duty Lau Larsen from North Jutland Police.

The police, however, maintain a cordon around the fire scene for the sake of the rescue team’s work.
A firefighter had to be taken to the emergency room for a check-up following he had been hit by something from the fire-stricken building. But he was only slightly injured, according to the report the police have.
Pizza baking
The police state that the building was used for industrial pizza production – pizza baking on a grand scale.
– It was probably in this connection that the fire started, says Lau Larsen.

Several fire trucks from Nordjylland’s emergency services were sent to the scene, and smoke divers were deployed to extinguish the fire.
