New Delhi (India) – A major fire broke out in a four-storey building in the Indian capital on Friday – at least 27 people might not escape the flames, twelve were injured and around 50 were rescued.
According to the emergency services, the fire broke out on the first floor of the house in the Mundka district. Here was a company for the production of security cameras with easily combustible material.

Within a very short time, the flames spread to a huge conflagration. The exact cause of the fire was initially unknown. The building did not have a fire department safety permit, nor was it equipped with firefighting equipment, Delhi fire chief Atul Garg said.
The two owners of the camera company – two brothers – were arrested on suspicion of disobeying fire regulations. The owner of the building is said to have gone into hiding.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences to the families of the victims. Authorities announced compensation.
Poor fire protection systems, a lack of emergency exits and outdated electrical systems are the main causes of devastating fires in India. In 2019, a fire at a factory in Delhi killed 43 people.
