Brussels firefighters intervened on Tuesday around 2 p.m. for a fire in a four-storey building on rue Édouard Stuckens in Evere. There were no injuries, but the building is temporarily uninhabitable.
“It was a fire on the rear facade, which started at the level of a wooden terrace, with propagation towards the other terraces, towards the flat roof and towards the interior of the apartments.“, explained Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels fire brigade.All the inhabitants had evacuated the premises before our arrival on the spot“, he clarified.
“The applicants have been cut off and the whole building is declared uninhabitable“, continued the spokesperson. “As for the excavation, it will be of long duration. There are still some fumaroles on the roof.“.
The inhabitants will be taken care of by the Brussels-North police zone and the municipal services of Evere. Regarding the origin of the disaster, it remains to be determined.
The firefighters intervened with a command vehicle, three pumpers, two self-ladders, two SMUR teams, three ambulances, a decontamination vehicle and a “support car”. They were helped in their task, in particular for the evacuation and the establishment of a security perimeter, by the police officers of the police zone
