The fire in northeastern Attica has been burning uncontrollably since yesterday (11.08.2024). The flames are poised to burn even densely populated areas while everyone is anxious about how the winds will develop by the end of the day.
The director of the National Meteorological Service, Thodoris Kolidas, spoke today about the course of the winds against the background of the fire in Attica.
The director revealed that at noon the winds reached up to 7 Beaufort, while until 18:00 they will remain quite strong.
At 19:00 in the afternoon they will begin to gradually weaken. Until 21:00 in the evening the winds will have reached up to 5 Beaufort in eastern Attica.
This particular development gives hope to the firefighting forces who will be able to operate more easily on the active fronts.
Weather forecast for tomorrow
The temperature will rise slightly and reach the continental 37 to 39 and in places mainly in the west 40 degrees Celsius. In the island country it will reach 31 to 33 and locally in the Ionian islands, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete up to 35 to 37 degrees Celsius.
MACEDONIA, THRACE

Winds: Variable 3 to 4 and in the east northeast to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 20 to 39 degrees Celsius. In western Macedonia the minimum is 2 to 3 degrees lower.

Weather: Generally clear. A few temporary clouds in the midday and afternoon hours in the highlands of Epirus.
Winds: Northerly 3 to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 22 to 37 and in continental areas to 39, locally 40 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus the minimum is 3 to 4 degrees lower.
EASTERN STEREA, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNISOS
Weather: Generally clear.
Winds: Northerly 4 to 5 and in the east local 6 Beaufort with a slight weakening from late afternoon.
Temperature: From 24 to 38, locally up to 39 degrees Celsius.
CYCLADES, CRETE
Weather: Sunny with a few temporary clouds in the midday and afternoon hours in the mountains.
Winds: Northerly 4 to 6 Beaufort with a slight weakening from the evening.
Temperature: From 25 to 33 and in southern Crete up to 34 to 36 degrees Celsius.
