Brussels firefighters had to intervene overnight from Saturday to Sunday to prevent a furniture warehouse from catching fire. A fire had broken out in the rue de la Poterie in Anderlecht and the flames threatened to destroy a stock of furniture, following completely burning a car which was in the street.
Firefighters were called around 3 a.m. They found a pile of waste on the spot, including household appliances, in flames, as well as a car, a BMW, which was next to it. The car completely burned down. A lighting pole succumbed to the heat.
According to the Brussels fire brigade, it is not clear whether the fire started with the pile of rubbish or the car. Through a window, flames entered an adjacent building where furniture was stored. Firefighters then evacuated some of the furniture. A wooden beam has finally burned in the warehouse, and the wall cladding, also made of wood, is damaged.
As the building was uninhabited, there were no injuries.
Shortly following 5:00 a.m., the fire extinguishing and debris clearance work was completed.
