Fire in a house in Etterbeek: a person found dead

The only resident of the premises, an elderly man, was missing during the intervention. A body was unfortunately found lifeless in the rubble, said around 8:30 p.m. Walter Derieuw.

The fire being localized in the upper floors, a large column of smoke was visible in the sky. Mayor Vincent De Wolf (MR) went there.

The mezzanine and the third floor are completely damaged. As the floors were unstable, the firefighters had difficulty inspecting the various rooms. They eventually found a body in the rubble. The police should notify the Brussels public prosecutor’s office of the facts, in accordance with the procedure.

The origin of the fire has not yet been determined, but there were numerous objects in the house that might fuel the fire.

At 8:00 p.m., firefighters cooled the last hot spots. Three pumpers and two self-ladders were mobilized for this intervention.
