A building at the Titeca hospital, rue de Luzerne in Schaerbeek, was evacuated Monday morning, according to the Brussels firefighters, due to a fire in a room. There were no injuries and the blaze was brought under control by firefighters.

The Brussels firefighters received a call on Monday around 10:20 a.m. for a fire at the Jean Titeca Hospital Center, rue de Luzerne in Schaerbeek. The fire was limited to a single room in this establishment which accommodates people with psychiatric disorders. The building of the complex where it is located was evacuated, given the significant release of smoke.

“The fire is under control and ventilation is in progress,” said Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels firefighters. “As a precautionary measure, the medical intervention plan was triggered, but there were no injuries,” he said. “The patients who were in the building that was evacuated are warm and safe in the institute’s gym,” Walter Derieuw further clarified.

As for the cause of the fire, it remains to be determined.
