Fire brigade warns of heavy smoke

A fire in Hamburg-Billbrook is currently causing heavy clouds of smoke over the city center. There is a warehouse on fire. The fire brigade warns the population.

In an industrial area in Billbrook, around 80 emergency services from the professional fire brigade and several volunteer fire brigades are out Hamburg with two turntable ladders in large-scale operations, reports a fire department spokesman to t-online. A warehouse is on fire there, and the smoke is spreading far across the city.

According to the fire brigade, a 40 by 60 meter building on the site of a waste processing plant where packaging and insulating material is stored is on fire, the spokesman said. The fire was reported by a fire alarm system at 3:08 p.m.

The fire brigade also warned the population of a cloud of smoke, which was now heading north-west, via the Nina warning app Hamm towards the Outer Alster. The emergency services advise driving around the Liebigstraße area in Billbrook and closing windows and doors and switching off ventilation systems.

The smoke development is decreasing, but the all-clear cannot yet be given, the fire brigade spokesman said on request.
