For several years now, kestrels have been nesting in the machine hall of an agricultural property in Engerwitzdorf. On Saturday followingnoon, the homeowner noticed that a chick had fallen out of the nest. After the nest was 10 meters up in a niche, he asked the Schweinbach fire brigade for help.

A team of five arrived to solve the problem. With the help of a three-part extension ladder, the nest was reached and the little kestrel, which the firefighters spontaneously christened Olaf, was safely returned to his three siblings, as the fire department reports on Facebook.

In Austria, kestrels are under strict protection, they may not be killed or disturbed, nor may their nesting sites be destroyed.
