The fire brigade was called out to free them, which they managed to do. All three animals were unharmed. When asked, operations manager Karl Kainrath, commander of the Altpölla volunteer fire brigade, confirmed a corresponding report from the “NÖN” (online) on Saturday.
With waders in feces
The emergency services had to climb into the slurry canal wearing waders and breathing apparatus, which was filled with feces half a meter high, explained Kainrath. Two of the bulls were pulled out of the canal using ropes and pulleys.
Complex rescue
For the third, which had obviously been stunned by the gases and had lain down, other cattle in the stable had to be relocated and more slatted floors had to be opened. The bull was then freed using a telehandler and chain hoist. According to Kainrath, each of the three animals weighs around 750 kilograms.
