Members of the Damascus Fire Brigade put out a fire that broke out at dawn Sunday in houses and shops on Al-Thawra Street, in the ancient Sarouja area of the Syrian capital.
According to the Syrian News Agency “SANA”, the commander of the Damascus Fire Brigade, Brigadier General Daoud Amiri, said that “immediately following receiving a report at dawn today that a fire broke out in houses on Al-Thawra Street, the fire brigade members went to the place and worked to put it out,” noting that “the elements are still continuing to work.” To cool the fire site, to prevent the fire from re-igniting.
Amiri explained that 21 fire engines from the regiment and 4 water tanks belonging to the Damascus governorate, in addition to 3 civil defense vehicles, worked to put out the fire since it broke out in homes, shoe workshops, and shops on Al-Thawra Street.
He pointed out that no injuries were recorded, while the material damage was limited, and investigations are continuing to find out the causes of the fire.
The pioneers of social media platforms interacted with the incident, expressing their sadness at the occurrence of the fire in one of the archaeological areas in Damascus, with its old houses, which constitute an important part of the capital’s history.
