The Brussels firefighters intervened on Monday around 12:30 a.m. for a fire in a building located on rue Xavier De Bue in Uccle, made up of a restaurant on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floors. There were no casualties, but the business where the fire started was completely destroyed.

“When we arrived, we first noticed that the residents had evacuated spontaneously and that the window of the restaurant had exploded,” explained Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels firefighters. “We put out the fire, while carrying out ‘Search & Rescue’ on the floors, in other words checking if no person was still in the building,” continued the spokesperson.

“Thanks to the compartmentalization of the building, there was no spread of smoke on the floors. However, the restaurant on the ground floor, where the fire started, is completely destroyed.” The origin of the fire remains to be determined. As for the residents, they were able to return to their apartments, after the intervention of the firefighters around 2:30 a.m. “During the extinguishing work, a high-voltage electrical cabin was taken out of service, resulting in a power outage in the area. After the intervention, power was restored by Sibelga,” explained Walter Derieuw.

The firefighters were supported in their work by the Marlow police zone (Uccle/Watermael-Boitsfort/Auderghem), which had established a security perimeter.
