TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — At least 27 people died Friday in a fire at a drug rehabilitation center in northern Iran, state media said.

Another 17 people were injured and taken to hospitals in the city of Langroud, regarding 200 kilometers (125 miles) northwest of the capital, Tehran, according to state television.

The fire at the private rehabilitation center began early Friday morning, added the network, which broadcast a video in which flames and smoke were seen once morest a dark sky.

These types of incidents are not rare in the country, especially due to non-compliance with security measures, the age of the facilities and the insufficiency of emergency services.

In September, a car battery factory owned by the Iranian Ministry of Defense reported two fires in less than a week, but no casualties were reported.
