After the common union front strike on November 6, the 80,000 members of the FIQ will also be on strike on November 8 and 9.
The common union front strike on November 6 will bring together 420,000 workers in the public and parapublic sectors. With the members of the FIQ, nearly half a million workers will be on strike for at least one day at the beginning of next month.
The impact will be felt in particular in Quebec. For the first time in nearly 25 years, healthcare professionals at the Quebec University Hospital will be on strike on November 8 and 9.
They will thus join the provincial movement which brings together 80,000 nurses, practical nurses, respiratory therapists and clinical perfusionists.

Unlimited strike
At the end of a consultation, 95% of FIQ members voted in favor of the strike. The mandate adopted can go as far as an unlimited general strike.
“It is a strong mandate to tell the government that the proposals we receive at the negotiating table are unacceptable,” said Nancy Hogan, president of the Syndicat interprofessional du CHU de Québec (SICHU).
The strike will disrupt the activities of the health network, but essential services will be ensured and patient safety will not be compromised. For example, outpatient clinic appointments might be impacted. Less urgent surgeries may also be postponed due to personnel on the picket lines.

“It’s going to be disrupted. The government is not open and there is no progress. In Quebec, our working conditions are already very difficult and what the government wants to do is to degrade them even more, by treating us like interchangeable pawns. If nothing is done, we are heading into a wall,” added Mr.me Hogan.
In front of the common union front of November 6, Prime Minister François Legault promises to “improve” his offer on Sunday, hoping for a settlement by the holidays.
For their part, the adopted mandate also provides for the ultimate resort to an unlimited general strike.
