Finnish parliament ratifies NATO accession

The Finnish Parliament on the 1st ratified the bill to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The vote was passed with 184 votes in favor and 7 once morest out of a total of 200 seats.

As a result, Finland has met the domestic requirements for NATO membership, and is currently awaiting approval from Hungary and Turkey among the 30 NATO countries.

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said he would sign the bill into law on the 1st.

Previously, in Helsinki on the 28th, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg called for membership approval by Hungary and Turkey, calling Finland and Sweden’s accession “a top priority” for member states.

Finland and Sweden, which have maintained their neutral status, jointly proceeded with the NATO accession process following Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year.
