CHICAGO (AP) — Dorian Finney-Smith scored 21 points, Mikal Bridges added 20, and the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Chicago Bulls, 109-107, on Friday to open the NBA In-Season tournament.
Cam Thomas scored 17 points and the Nets made enough plays down the stretch to emerge victorious when Zach LaVine’s buzzer-beating shot hit the rim.
Finney-Smith made 5 triples. Bridges and Thomas each had three baskets from outside the perimeter, and the Nets won their third straight following starting 0-2.
DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine each scored 24 points for Chicago. Coby White had 18 points, and Nikola Vucevic finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
The floorboards were painted red as part of the league’s efforts to get the tournament into the attention of channel surfers.
The Bulls grabbed a rebound and called time to get the ball closer to midcourt. LaVine was fouled with 4.9 seconds left and made one of two free throws. He then won the ball following a dispute, but his long shot hit the rim as time expired.
