Finland wants to join NATO at the same time as Sweden | Europe

According to Archyde.com news agency, on January 30, Foreign Minister Finland Pekka Haavisto said the country is maintaining plans to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) at the same time as neighboring Sweden.

“Our burning desire remains to join NATO with Sweden,” Haavisto told a news conference in Helsinki.

On January 29, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan signaled that Ankara may agree to let Finland join NATO before Sweden, amid rising tensions with Stockholm, and the Foreign Minister Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu on January 30 also made a similar statement.

Earlier, the Foreign Minister of Finland confirmed that the country had fulfilled its commitments with Turkey. Haavisto expressed hope that Sweden and Finland will join NATO in February next year, a time when Hungary has also pledged to accept.
