Finland and Estonia want to take away the sea from Russia by creating a joint missile defense system (ABM). This was announced by the new Minister of Defense of Estonia, Hanno Pevkur, in an interview with the Finnish edition of Iltalehti.

“We need to unify our coastal defenses. The range of Estonian and Finnish missiles exceeds the width of the Gulf of Finland,” he explained. In this regard, he concludes that the integration of the Finnish and Estonian missile defense system makes it possible to “close” the Gulf of Finland for Russian warships. Pevkur also explained that these plans might be implemented when Finland joins NATO.
