Wednesday evening ended well for Aalborg Handball, who fought back and won 35-35 against Kielce in the last group stage match in the Champions League.
At the same time as the cosmetic result, they could be hailed as regular game winners in the Men’s League, when the closest rivals from Fredericia stumbled in Skanderborg.
– We are happy and proud to have achieved two of the interim goals of the season, says Mads Hoxer, who burned the pitch with 12 scores in 13 attempts.
– Things were bottling up for me. Other times it goes to hell, but this was a wonderful experience, says the team’s humble thybo.

Mads Hoxer gave his team a flying start, but then the Aalborgenses’ play slipped in, and 10 minutes into the second half, Kielce led with as many as five goals.
– We didn’t give up, but gave it full throttle instead, and fortunately we were able to fight back. We’ve done that quite a few times here at home, and it’s a crazy important quality, points out Mads Hoxer.

Aalborg was actually close to winning when Thomas Arnoldsen got a free throw as the final action of the game
– The last time I took a free throw after time was at the U21 WC this summer, and I actually scored there. That’s why I had a good feeling, and it was also close to me scoring again. Unfortunately, their goalkeeper made a great save, says the up-and-coming playmaker.
The ability to fight back from hopeless situations can be valuable for Aalborg Handball when the season has to be decided.

Ahead now await three regular season matches in the Men’s League, which are of no importance. But the Aalborg players are still busy pointing out the importance of those matches.
– We must use them to work on removing some of the outcomes we sometimes have in matches. We have three matches to do that, says Thomas Arnoldsen, who is complemented by his teammate.
– We have to keep our level and pace instead of starting to mess around with it. Then maybe we can also practice some things that we can use later in the season, when things have to be decided. It is a unique opportunity, states Mads Hoxer.
