Riyadh: In Saudi Arabia, those who throw away waste carelessly will be fined from now on. A provision in the amended Waste Management Act will henceforth impose a fine of 200 to 1000 Riyals on those who throw waste while walking or through the windows of vehicles, buildings or buildings. The National Center for Waste Management has finalized the classification of various violations and penalties under the Waste Management Act and its Executive Regulations.
Its details are available on the unified electronic platform Public Consultation Platform (Istit La). The platform has an opportunity for the public to express their views and reactions on the revised provisions. Fines ranging from a minimum of 1,000 to a maximum of 10,000 riyals are imposed on those who spread waste inside containers and take out recyclable waste. A fine of up to 50,000 riyals will be imposed on those who dump construction waste on other people’s land or public places.
A fine of up to 20,000 riyals will be levied for non-removal of waste resulting from demolition works for construction and renovation. A fine of up to 1,000 riyals will be imposed on those who deposit large-sized residential waste such as mattresses, furniture, etc. in places not prepared for it, along the road, etc. The same fine is imposed even if green waste is deposited in undesignated areas or in the vicinity of containers.
A fine of up to one crore Riyals will be imposed in case of removal of waste without securing legal permission or not appointing a service provider or waste disposal facility for its disposal. A fine of at least 5,000 Rials and a maximum of 20,000 Rials has been set for violation of the law for not removing waste resulting from construction or demolition works. In the same way, the maximum fine of 50,000 Riyals will be imposed if waste is disposed of in ditches, valleys, wells and beaches for rainwater to flow away, or if the waste is deposited on other people’s land or public places for construction or demolition.
The penalty for non-compliance with regulations regarding segregation of hazardous and health-injurious waste at source is a minimum of 10,000 and a maximum of one lakh riyals. The same penalties apply to waste collection and transport service providers in case waste transport vehicles fail to comply with the regulations. There are also fines for destroying, disabling or changing the settings of a tracking device installed in a vehicle and placing containers for unauthorized parties in public places.
