The Ministry of Development imposed a fine of a total of 120,000 euros on the e-shop company “ATHANASIOS PERIFANIS KE SIA O.E.” which maintains the online store

Specifically, following an extensive audit conducted by the General Directorate of Market and Consumer Protection of the General Secretariat of Trade of the Ministry of Finance, serious violations of consumer legislation were found, and in particular:
- Failure to deliver product orders at the agreed delivery time and failure to inform consumers of the final order execution time following the deadline has passed.
- The non-return of the money paid by the consumers for the purchase of the goods which they never received following the termination of the contract and the cancellation of the order.
- Misleading consumers regarding the availability of goods when in fact the business was unable to fulfill the orders.
- Difficult to impossible communication with the company.
In addition to the administrative fine imposed on the specific company, the services of the Ministry of Development proceeded to temporarily ban access to the company’s website following a relevant order to the National Telecommunications and Posts Commission. This move aims to immediately stop access to the company’s website in order to immediately prevent further harm to consumers from the specific online store.
According to iefimerida, the Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas made the following statement: “Anyone who violates the law will face the consequences of the law. This is one of our standing principles for the proper functioning of the market and consumer protection. The audit services of the Ministry of Development keep a watchful eye on the market, both conventional and online, and enforce what is provided for by Greek legislation. The checks will continue at an unabated pace.”
The consumer public is invited, in case they detect phenomena of unfair commercial practices by online businesses, to submit a complaint to the General Directorate of Market and Consumer Protection (https://kataggelies.mindev.gov.gr/).
