Fine of 1,200 euros for the bad habit of Greeks at Easter, who are at risk

Drivers who do not have a limit on alcohol consumption are at risk of having their hands deep in their pockets, endangering both themselves and other road users.

The great exodus for Easter is at its peak, with many people leaving the bustling capital. Travelers flood the country’s highways and ports, bound for their villages or other places where they can take a break from their daily lives.

A break that for many excursionists is inextricably linked with revelry and alcohol consumption. Everyone, however, must remember that if they are “stung” they must not sit behind the wheel, since there is a risk that they will cause a serious traffic accident.

We must not forget that any amount of alcohol is involved -among other things- a delay in the driver’s reflexes (double or even triple reaction times), reduced perception of space and speed and a feeling of overconfidence.

For example, according to research, one glass of wine reduces the driver’s reflexes by half, while three glasses of wine reduce them by up to 80%.

So let’s think regarding what effect alcohol has on our body when the concentration of alcohol in the blood is well above the limit set by the Road Traffic Code.

Given the dangers associated with drinking while driving, the KOK prescribes severe penalties for those who drive while impaired.

When does the fine reach 1,200 euros?

The driver is considered to be under the influence of alcohol when the percentage of alcohol in the body is from 0.50 grams per liter of blood (0.50 gr./l.) or more, measured by the blood sampling method or from 0.25 millimeters of grams per liter of exhaled air and above, when the measurement is made in the exhaled air with a corresponding breathalyzer device.

The fine amounts to 200 euros if the concentration of alcohol in his blood ranges from 0.50 g/l to 0.80 g/l, measured by the blood sampling method, or from 0.25 to 0.40 milligrammes per liter of exhaled breath air, when the measurement is made in exhaled air with a corresponding breathalyzer device.

The fine reaches 700 euros if the concentration of alcohol in his blood is above 0.80 g/l and up to 1.10 g/l, measured by the blood sampling method or above 0.40 to 0.60 milligrammes per liter of exhaled air, when the measurement is made in the exhaled air with a corresponding breathalyzer device. It comes with an on-the-spot driver’s license suspension for 90 days.

The fine amounts to 1,200 euros if the blood alcohol concentration is over 1.10 g/l, measured by the blood sampling method or more than 0.60 milligrammes per liter of exhaled air, when the measurement is made in the exhaled air with a corresponding breathalyzer device. The driver’s license is suspended for 180 days and the driver faces jail time.

It is, of course, worth noting that it should not be the KOK penalties that prevent us from driving while we have consumed alcohol, but the safety of ourselves and our families, as well as our fellow citizens.
