April, 4. DVRs have become an integral accessory for many car owners due to their ability to record what is happening on the road, which can serve as irreplaceable evidence in controversial situations on the road, when filing insurance claims or in legal proceedings. However, when installing them, you must follow certain rules so as not to receive a fine, they write “News” (18+).
Since September 2023, an updated list of malfunctions has been in force for which the operation of the car is prohibited, including restrictions related to visibility of the windshield. The video recorder, along with other items, should not interfere with the driver’s view of the road. Otherwise, violation of visibility will result in a fine of 500 rubles.
When inspecting the car, if the traffic police inspector considers that the recorder interferes with safe driving, he may require its removal. Refusal to eliminate such a violation gives grounds for issuing an order to eliminate it, and in the event of a repeated violation, the application of more stringent measures.
When choosing a place to install the DVR, you should be guided by the principle of minimal interference with the view of the road; it is preferable to place it behind the rear-view mirror or in the upper corner of the windshield, without blocking the visibility of the side mirrors.
If a fine for an incorrectly installed DVR is challenged in court, the driver should emphasize that the device did not interfere with visibility and contributed to increased safety on the road. Although such cases rarely come to court, in most cases it is possible to resolve the conflict on the spot, with the elimination of the violation and receiving a warning instead of a fine.
