It will allow them to land in a neighborhood they know
600,000 euros were needed for the cooperative society, helped by the Walloon Minister for Social Action to the tune of 360,000 euros. It was the Relais Social Urbain de Verviers that chose the tenants, two large families, because they are the first to suffer from the lack of decent housing. “It will allow them to land in a place, in a neighborhood that they know well” underlines Anne Delvenne, the general coordinator. “The children will continue to have a completely normal school life, and that is very important for rebuilding themselves, and rediscovering this ability to cope with all the other problems in their lives. When you have a roof over your head, you have what you need to restart because it allows you to work on your health, on employment problems, on school problems, on mental health problems. It is essential.”
Both a decent rent and savings on utilities
Financially, the housing budget of the two families will be limited. “What we wanted is both a suitable rent, and at the same time, savings on the charges” specifies Julien Mestrez.
To ensure a good start, the Relais Social Urbain will support families during the first months.
