Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Indra Iskandar announced that members of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2024–2029 period will no longer receive official housing facilities and will be replaced with official housing or office housing allowances.
Indra said this was the result of a decision from a consultation meeting between the leadership of the DPR RI and political party factions before the inauguration of members for the new period. The official residences which have been occupied by the people’s representatives will be returned to the state.
“We are currently preparing various documents to submit to the Ministry of Finance, as well as the Ministry of State Secretariat, regarding the return of state assets,” said Indra at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday.
He said that so far the official residences occupied by members of the DPR RI are no longer economical as housing because most of the official residences are in quite bad condition and are not suitable for living in.

“Some of the conditions are very bad, but there are also council members who use their own budget to maintain them so there are also some whose condition is still quite good,” he said.
Apart from that, so far his party is still identifying house rental costs in the Senayan, Semanggi, and even Jabodetabek areas, to be able to determine the ideal allowance figure for members of the DPR RI.
The housing facilities that will be an indicator of the allowance include a very decent residence with three rooms.

According to Indra, the DPR secretariat will collaborate with the appraiser to determine the value of the housing allowance.
“So it has been decided that members of the DPR starting from the 2024-2029 period will be given a housing allowance, later the housing allowance will be included in the salary component,” added Indra.
Previously, it had been circulating since Thursday (3/10) regarding the DPR RI Secretariat General’s Letter Number B/733/RT.01/09/2024 regarding the handover of members’ residences. The letter, signed on September 25 2024, ordered both elected and non-elected DPR members to leave their respective official residences. (Ant/P-2)
