As of Monday, May 15, most riverside sites are open. However, in some bodies of water requiring the presence of licensed lifeguards for safety reasons, the season will generally start in mid- or late June, and will be slightly shorter.
A website… and our interactive map to find out regarding the 26 bathing sites
To know the bathing sites and obtain information on the quality of the water, consult the list available on the official website http://baignade.wallonie.be. And with the information available this Monday, we have produced the interactive map below:

The SPW would like to point out that quality checks are carried out regularly throughout the bathing season.
It should be noted that bathing areas may exceptionally be temporarily prohibited, particularly in the event of heavy stormy showers causing sewer overflows into rivers, or in the presence of cyanobacteria (commonly called “blue algae”) in the plans of water.
The Walloon administration warns once morest unofficial sites which may be suitable for swimming, but which are not subject to permanent monitoring of their microbiological quality, which may lead to problems such as gastroenteritis. In addition, some sites present dangers for the safety of bathers, such as old quarries. It is therefore recommended to swim only in the official areas listed in the list.
Some advice from the SPW
To enjoy safely, follow these tips from the SPW: avoid alcohol, wet your neck before swimming and avoid sudden dives, especially following long exposure to the sun, to prevent any risk of hydrocution, which can lead to unconsciousness in the water and potentially drowning.
