The work references Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky and Prokofiev. The latter was rightly in the spotlight, since it was with one of his emblematic works that this concert closed: the ballet Romeo and Juliet. Specifically extracts from Suites n°1 and 2. These were made in 1936 even before the ballet was created. Indeed the choreographer and the dancers of the Kirov judged the music too difficult. Faced with these reservations, the creation of Romeo Juliet has been delayed. Moreover, it was in Czechoslovakia that it was performed for the first time in 1938, before finally being presented at the Kirov in 1940. This concert recorded on November 18 will be presented by Laure Mézan.
