For several months now, the price of gasoline has exploded. To attract ever more customers, some supermarkets have decided to act. Leclerc, Intermarché, Carrefour or also System U often make operations to offer the cheapest liter of gasoline. Discover in this article the supermarket where refueling is the cheapest!
Price differences between distributors
A few days ago, our colleagues from Le Parisien released a complete list of price differences between Total, Esso or BP gas pumps and the largest supermarkets. And the difference can sometimes be huge and reach up to 29 cents per liter.
Among the most expensive petrol stations, there is Shell and BP. Both brands have higher prices than the others. And often, if you go to a BP or Shell station, you will see the liter of gasoline exceed 1.80 euros per liter for diesel and 2 euros for SP95.
As you will have understood, these are neither Shell nor BP the cheapest. Find out below the supermarket that offers the cheapest liter of petrol on the market in France.
The supermarkets offering the lowest prices on petrol
While some gas stations are overpriced, supermarkets are trying to drive fuel prices down. Leclerc, Intermarché and Système U often offer operations to have lower gas prices than elsewhere.
Leclerc is positioned at the top of the ranking with the cheapest liter of diesel. It is offered at 1.61 euro in town and 1.74 euro on motorways. In 2nd position Intermarché displays prices slightly lower at 1.64 euro in town and 1.71 euro on motorways.
These two supermarkets also offer very low prices for SP95. Leclerc offers it for 1.77 euros in town. And Intermarché at 1.75 euros on motorways. As you may have noticed, it may happen that the price of fuel is cheaper on the highways than in some downtown gas stations.
On the 3rd step of the podium, there are the supermarkets System U then Carrefour. They are slightly more expensive than Leclerc and Intermarché. But they offer very competitive prices with only a difference of regarding 5 cents per liter.
In addition to supermarkets, some gasoline distributors can also be advantageous!

The petrol stations of major brands are struggling to align themselves with the prices of the supermarkets mentioned above. But there is a brand that manages to pull out of the game, it’s Total. For example TotalEnergies Access stations offer fairly low rates on gasoline. There is only a difference of 2 cents more than Leclerc stations.
Despite the general increase in gasoline prices, there are still solutions and tips to manage to pay less for your fuel. Supermarkets like Leclerc, Intermarché and Système U do everything to offer the lowest gas prices. This allows many motorists to make big savings.
To take advantage of the lowest gas prices, do not hesitate to compare the prices in your region, the city next to your home. Sometimes a few more km can make even more savings on the price of fuel.
