Among the various modalities that the United States (US) grants to travel to its country legally, we have the Border Crossing Card, find out what it is and who can access it.
The first thing you need to know is that the Border Crossing Card (BBC) is an identification issued by the US government to Mexicans who cross into their country frequently.
It may sound familiar to you, and it is another way of referring to the aforementioned laser visa.
So, this identification document allows Mexican citizens to travel to the US by land, recreational boat, or ferry.
This, without requiring an American visa.
However, you can’t travel all over the US with it, there are only certain cities in the nation that you can visit with the BBC.
Which cities can you travel to with the Border Crossing Card?
It even comes with an unlimited number of entries into the country for a period of ten years.
In addition, beneficiary travel is restricted to certain areas near the border with Mexico, and up to a maximum distance of between 25 and 75 miles (40 to 120 km).
So, Mexicans with a Border Crossing Card can travel to:
- California, less than 25 miles from the border
- Arizona, less than 75 miles from the border
- New Mexico, within 55 miles of the border or up to Interstate 10, whichever is farther north
- Texas, less than 25 miles from the border
What are the eligibility criteria for obtaining the BBC?
To qualify for a BCC, applicants must:
- Be citizens and residents of Mexico.
- Meet the eligibility requirements for B1 and/or B2 visas.
- Plan to stay in the US no more than six months.
- Demonstrate that they have ties to Mexico that would require them to return after a temporary stay in the US.
This is how you can process your Border Crossing Card
If you want to apply for a laser visa, you can do so by filling out the DS-160 form and paying $185 dollars.
Applicants must then schedule appointments at the Applicant Service Center (CAS) and at the consulate through a website designated for the management of these procedures.
Please note that the decision to grant or deny the visa rests with a consular officer after the appointment at the consulate.
