Find My App has been showing the wrong location of lost devices

Just imagine: you are in the comfort of your home and, suddenly, (several) people start showing up saying that their lost device is at your residence — without actually being. What a nightmare it must be, no?

This is precisely why the American Scott Schuster, from Texas, is passing by. More than ten people have already shown up at your door because the app search (Find My) on iPhone shows your address when searching for lost devices. He, however, claims that he does not have any device, and that he has already started to be afraid that something might happen — like someone going there armed, for example.

According to him, people show up at his house at all times of the day, including at night, which has already made him have to wake up to attend to unexpected “visits”. One of the people even threatened to call the police, although he explained that he did not have the device lost and that what led the person to his home was probably a mistake in Buscar and/or Mapas.

he said to Inside Edition that his home was formerly a model home for the neighborhood. Therefore, the man assumed that the address where he lives could also be linked to other nearby houses, so that all these people are taken to him, however much they shouldn’t.

The situation is proving to be too risky for him, who has two young children and has lived in this house since 2018. With that many people showing up, it may not be long before someone goes beyond simply complaining to him through the doorbell intercom, the which certainly raises many concerns.

As remembered the AppleInsider, the fact that many places are associated with the address must mean that the street and street number were the first to be recorded in the address. That is, the problem is probably in the field of Maps, and not exactly Buscar, which uses Apple’s location data to guide people when looking for something lost.

Schuster said he contacted Apple support, but that his case was closed with no resolution. In a post on Instagram, he showed that a device was being displayed on the map a few meters away from his home, but that his address was displayed. He threatened to sue Apple because of the great inconvenience and risks he is experiencing.

This makes one think how necessary it is that the company’s location data needs to be updated so that users do not go through this type of situation. As much as they are disturbing, the people who go to the man’s house are also unable to solve their problem, which only makes things worse.

Let’s hope for a quick resolution!
