Fincantieri delivers the “Queen Anne”

Cunard had already announced a series of collaborations for Queen Anne, including Le Gavroche at Sea dining experiences curated by Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux, wellness packages developed by beauty experts at Harper’s Bazaar UK and exclusive screenings curated by the British Film Institute in the frame of the Pavilion. Also on board is a wide selection of fitness, beauty, spa and spa facilities.

The sector

The cruise sector has the wind in its sails, assures Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero: «We see a huge growth in investment demand, we are collaborating with all shipowners. We have no concerns regarding the possibility of maintaining, employing, maximizing use and employment in all our Italian shipyards. We closed 2023 very well, we feel like confirming the guidelines for 2024 which we believe will be in great continuity with the good results of 2023 in terms of revenues, margins, cash generation and portfolio development. The shipbuilding business, both for the commercial part, therefore cruise ships and work ships, and for the military part, is in a moment of great strength, from the point of view of the market in the strict sense, I am thinking of the commercial part, but also as regards geopolitics, I think of the military part.”

Folgiero also said that he shares «the thoughts of Roberto Cingolani when he calls everyone, the European institutions, including antitrust and all companies, to look at the industrial base of the continent in a different way. The world will be divided into blocs and the European bloc must also adopt new strategies to build a stronger industrial base. So good luck to all the managerial, industrial and institutional initiatives that will go in this direction because the situation is such that the time has come to get our hands inside the gears and create a real European industrial base.”

The future

In recent days, the Fincantieri factory in Monfalcone was visited by the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton: an opportunity to delve deeper into the contents of the SEA Europe Maritime Industry Strategy document. Fincantieri’s top management also showed the Commissioner the ships under construction during a visit to the shipyard.

The future «will be of the digital ship with limited emissions, and progressively zero. These are issues that must be interpreted as innovation by shipyards, who then guarantee the solutions. In this vein we will create the distinctiveness that will allow the shipbuilding industry to grow in Italy”, underlines Folgiero. In this path of innovation «we will bring with us our SMEs – he added – which are part of an ecosystem that will have to develop along the lines of the green ship».
