Dortmund – Financial difficulties are once once more driving a well-known company into bankruptcy. The famous British rubber boot brand Hunter has to pull the financial ripcord. British media reports debts of more than 100 million euros.

The British call their rubber boots “wellies”. A well-known brand, with which the royal family in Great Britain was also happy to be photographed, is the shoe brand Hunter. King Charles, Queen Camilla and Princess Diana in particular have often been seen wandering the British countryside in their classic Hunter boots.
But the boots are also popular in Germany and are available from online retailers such as Zalando. Now, however, fans of the shoe brand have to fear for their existence.

The company, best known for the classic Hunter wellies, is suffering, according to the British newspaper Daily Mail amid the ongoing drought in the US. Because the international demand for rainproof footwear has fallen significantly in the course of long periods of drought.

In addition, the costs for logistics and the closure of the production factory in China during the corona pandemic led to further losses. This is the second email that Hunter has gone bankrupt. As the Welt reports that since production was relocated to China in 2008, more and more customers have complained regarding the quality of the Hunter boots (more on finance at RUHR24).
The homepage of the shoe brand is currently being renovated. An insolvency administrator is involved. How the company will continue is not yet known.
Clothing chains are hit hard by the current wave of bankruptcies. In addition to Hunter, the fashion chain Deerberg GmbH also has to file for bankruptcy – despite a new opening.
