Financial aid for Canarians and their descendants in Cuba: how to apply

The Vice-Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Canary Islands has launched an extraordinary plan of economic assistance, which has already benefited 56 people in Cuba with a total of 11,200 euros.

Each humanitarian aid can reach a maximum of 200 euros per person, according to the half Spain Abroad. If you are a Canarian or descendant and reside in Cuba, it is important that you know how you can access this aid.

This program is aimed at both Canarians residing in Cuba and their descendants who are in a precarious socioeconomic situation.

Furthermore, these grants are not limited to Cuba; they can also be requested by Canarians or their descendants who are in other parts of the world.

What does the aid consist of?

Humanitarian aid is intended to cover basic and urgent needs. This includes funding for crucial surgical interventions and life-saving medical treatments, as well as for the purchase of food and medicines. Aid is offered directly, with the aim of providing immediate relief to those in need.

Requirements and necessary documentation

To start the application process, you must complete a form in which you must provide the following information:

  • Relationship with the Canary Islands: indicate whether you were born in the Canary Islands, if you are the child of a Canarian, or if you have another relationship with the islands.
  • Application history: Specify whether you have applied for aid in previous years.
  • Health status: Detail if you suffer from any illness or disability.
  • Housing conditions: Describe the type of housing in which you live, its tenancy regime, living conditions and contracted services (water, electricity, etc.).
  • Reason for request: Explain the reason why you are requesting assistance, the amount you need and the financial contribution that you and your family can make.

In addition, you must attach the following documentation:

  • Identity document and passport.
  • Representative’s identification document (if applicable).
  • Literal from the Spanish Consulate.
  • Certificate of birth in the Canary Islands or of Canarian descent.
  • Declaration of other aid

It is essential that you declare whether you have received other aid or subsidies for the same purpose from any administration, public or private entity. If you have received other assistance, you will need to indicate the amount received.
