Finance Commission sends the pension reform to Chamber – La Discusión 2024-02-20 18:43:29

The Finance Commission of the Chamber of Deputies dispatched the Government’s pension reform this Monday, with which the project will be discussed in the Chamber this Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Minister of Labor, Jeannette Jara, highlighted that although there were “diverse visions”, they were able to advance in this instance, despite the “resistance” of Chile Vamos.

“The bill has very large print, it requires resources, and when the tax reform was rejected last year and the idea of legislating was rejected, what occurred as an effect was that the PGU might not be raised,” Jara added. .

“Now, to raise it to 250 thousand pesos and make it truly universal, those resources are required. And that is why the tax compliance project is going to be presented. Things are linked, and the people in the house know it: To increase or have a permanent expense you need to have a permanent income“, added the minister.

For his part, the Minister of Finance Mario Marcel expressed that “I would like to thank Minister Jara on behalf of the Executive for the discussion we have had in this Commission. We know that it has not been without tensions and we know the importance of this project, whatever the vision one has regarding its contents.”

“We celebrate having managed to advance on several issues that had arisen in the discussion, not only during this process, but in other previous periods. Of course we reaffirm the Executive’s willingness to dialogue and seek agreements regarding a reform that matters so much to Chileans of all ages,” he added.

“We are going to continue seeing each other around this project in the Court, starting tomorrow,” he stated.

The Government’s goal, following having made the pension reform extremely urgent, is for the first step of the initiative to be approved in the Chamber of the Chamber so that it can be sent to the Senate, in order to be able to discuss it – eventually – in March.
